In a nutshell, you need to use File Transfer Protocol (available through an FTP client or web publishing software) to upload your files to your webpages directory our web server.
Server: ftp.xyz.net
Directory: /home/xyz.net/username/webpages/
This can summed up with the publishing URL (as asked for by Netscape),
ftp://ftp.xyz.net/home/xyz.net/username/webpages/
or (as asked for by Microsoft),
ftp://ftp.xyz.net/webpages/
You also want to name your main webpage, home.html (or home.htm or
HOME.HTM).
This is the default document name on our web server. This means if our server
is requested to show the contents of a directory, and if home.html is
present in that directory, it will instead serve home.html. For example, the
address http://www.xyz.net/~chrisdoe will normally just list the files in the
directory /home/xyz.net/chrisdoe/webpages/ on our web server. If they put
their page in that directory named mypages.html, they would have to tell their
friends to go to http://www.xyz.net/~chrisdoe/mypages.html. Naming their main
page, home.html, they can address their page with the shorter,
http://www.xyz.net/~chrisdoe.
